2/15/2016 – Wichita, KS — A sex offender out of Wichita has been federally indicted on charges stemming from the alleged sex trafficking of a 17-year-old female in Oklahoma and Texas.
Gerald L. Brown, 25, is currently charged in federal court with one count of sex trafficking of a minor and one count of sex trafficking an adult by force, fraud, or coercion.
According a federal indictment handed down Jan. 12 of this year, in June and July of last year, Brown recruited his 17-year-old victim to travel from Kansas to Oklahoma and then to Texas for the purpose of prostituting herself for his financial gain. Brown is also alleged to have used force, fraud or coercion to cause an adult female victim to engage in prostitution from Aug. to Oct. of 2015.
In both cases prosecutors alleged that Brown utilized the website Backpage.com to promote the prostitution and exploitation of his victim.
In both cases, Brown was a registered sex offender as a result of a 2006 conviction in Sedgwick County District Court for indecent liberties with a child.
If convicted of sex trafficking of a minor, Brown faces a minimum of 10-yerars in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000. If convicted of sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion, Brown faces a minimum of 15-years in prison and a fire up yo $250,000.
Brown is currently set for jury trial on Mar. 22. before the U.S. District Court, District of Kansas (Wichita).
